And
these very secrets are what I shared in this book.
I
discovered these secrets one after the other, applied them,
and reached this glorious destination where I never have to
worry about money again to the glory of my God who makes rich
without adding sorrow to it.
But
this is not even the best part. The part that thrills me really
is the fact that you can make use of these secrets too and
go past even where I’m today. Isn’t that exciting?

Here’s
what the Publisher of Encourager Magazine, Engr. Onuonye Eluekezi,
said about How To Make It In Nigeria Building Your Wealth
From Ground Floor Up in his review of the book:
There
are several reasons why a writer would want to write a book.
(a)
He may be motivated in the spirit to do so; he may want to
add value to people’s lives;
(b)
He may want to use it as a source to establish himself as
an authority in an area;
(c)
He may want it as a business venture, that is, to make money
through royalties or self-publishing.
(d)
Finally, he may have a story to tell.
I
can categorically say that Sunny Obazu-Ojeagbase, in this
book, How To Make It In Nigeria Building Your Wealth From
Ground Floor Up, has a story to tell. I can also say with
all sincerity that he has told this story superbly.
The
book is not conceptual or theoretical in any way but practical
and autobiographical in nature. I am not just recommending
the book to you but I am urging you to go right NOW and acquire
it and don’t only read it, but study it.
It
is a success story. It is a book based on “what I did”,
not what someone else did. I encourage you to go, pick up
your own copy and create some hours to study it.
And
I can tell you, the book is easy to read, contains many of
the things you might have been looking for as an entrepreneur
or as a would-be business person.
Before
I go into the contents of the book proper, I will say just
one more thing because of my desire that you gain the necessary
insight into the essence of the text and that you do not read
the book as a novel.
First,
I desire that you skim through it and then make some hours
within a day or two, not more, to study it, chapter by chapter,
taking copious notes and relating it to your situation.
Capitalize
on the advantages you see right away and then drop or remedy
the weaknesses and “overweights” you have spotted
out in your life, using the ideas in the book.
This
is a book where genuine, liberal and worthwhile efforts have
been made to supply the reader helpful information. Of course,
this is usually the goal of most authors, but some are not
always able to meet this goal.
The
spacing, the simplicity of expressions, the conversational
style of the author, makes the book, as I have said earlier,
easily readable.
Even
the acknowledgement which the author felt was lenghty is a
big plus. It is a practical book, teaching the readers in
the comfort of their reading places how they can plan and
organize their lives and priorities.
It
is not surprising that the early chapters are lengthy and
quite interesting whereas thereafter, each chapter was short
and straight to the point. This is a credit, not a minus.
The early chapters are more autobiographical in nature and
it is always easier to write what you’ve lived, so also
for the readers.
It
is easier to read about people’s lives and practices.
The relevance of these early chapters to the need of the entrepreneurs
and would-be businesspersons is great, for it is needful to
know how the author started and how he arrived where he is
today.
More so,
there is the need for the reader to know where he (Sunny)
started from, vis-a-vis himself (the reader). This background
information will help the reader overcome whatever obstacles,
humble beginnings and little start-up capital he may encounter.
Yes,
coming to specifics. The acknowledgement is a very good example
of how to appreciate other people’s help to us. It is
quite an eye-opener.
The foreword is a powerful motivator. I hope the reader will
read it very carefully and meditate on at least five or six
words and expressions there.
The
introduction made a basic point which many people had missed
in their bid to acquire wealth thereby causing peace to eluded
them.
This
point is a big one, a point that is more relevant today than
ever before. It is the need to be a new creature, to have
a turning point in one’s life; to accept Jesus as one’s
personal Lord and Saviour.
When
the author changed his thinking, his life changed. He changed
his thinking of lack to thinking plenty and he began to prosper.
According to him he never lacked food on his table ever since.
Also, he threw away his nasty habit of pool-betting. We all
need to learn from this - replace our negative habits with
positive ones and our future becomes brighter.
In
chapter one, he classified people into five categories viz:
A
YOUTH;
AN APPLICANT;
A CAREERIST;
A BUSINESS OWNER;
A PENSIONER.
He
analyzed the expectations of each of them, giving wise advice,
what each should do to succeed in life.
In
chapter two the author superbly highlighted how the reader
can reach his or her destiny. He talked about DESIRE, DREAMS
and DRAWING A ROAD MAP.
He
also advises the reader to take prompt action. He tells the
reader to envisage problems and listed how the reader can
tackle them.
He
gave a number of warnings on health and opposite sex and even
how to manage success. He reiterates a point to remember:
TO REMEMBER GOD, THE CREATOR OF HEAVEN AND EARTH.
In
chapter three, he talks at length about how to get ideas and
how to convert them into money or money-yielding ventures.
His practical ideas-seeking moves, serve as good hints to
the reader.
Equally
applicable and worthy of emulation, is how he received the
idea which helped him to start SUCCESS DIGEST, a monthly magazine
which has helped and is still helping people to set up their
own enterprises and run them profitably. Full attention was
paid to how to start and run one’s own business.
In
chapter four, most things one would need to know and would
need to do to launch out into business were thoroughly discussed.
In
chapter five, the touchy, thorny and tough issue of raising
capital was discussed as space permitted (as the question
needed more answers).
The
Pareto Law of Optimality (the 80/20 law) was discussed in
chapter six. He related this to practical situations in Nigeria.
Well, it appears that this chapter was divided into sub-chapters,
topic by topic; otherwise, I had taken each sub-topic as a
chapter heading.
Whatever
may be the arrangement, the fact is that this section covered
areas such as: GET CONNECTED NOW!; STILL SEARCHING FOR A JOB?;
TRY ABDULLAHI LAWORE’S FORMULA; LET THEM SAY; etc.
The
topics or sub-topics as you may call them are all of great
interest to me and I believe they will be so for other readers
too.
Chapter
seven has the heading: YES, YOU CAN! Well, you have heard,
YES, YOU CAN do it. All you need is to believe what the author
has told you and put them into practice, starting NOW.
When
I told a friend that I had read this book and highly commended
the efforts, he said to me: “there are many typographical
errors in the book”.
But
I quickly replied that I did not see even an error in the
book.
Well,
you can only get what you want to get from a book. I was highly
motivated to read the book so I read it with all my mind positively
tuned.
Having
said that, I can tell you that I really did not see any error.
(Author’s note: The revised and expanded version of
the book was more painstakingly proof-read).
Of
course, there could be several. After all, another friend
of mine, Prof. David Iornem, Ph.D., the author of several
books including the one titled: HOW TO START AND MANAGE YOUR
OWN BUSINESS AND GUARANTEE SUCCESS, told me a story of an
author who boasted that no error will be found in his book
and really set out to fulfill that vow to himself and his
would-be readers.
He
worked on the manuscript, the typescript and typeset work
and all, including the cover. In fact, everything. The book
took the author in the story about two years to bring out.
Since
he had the funds, the book could have come out in a matter
of three months or so, but to make sure it was error-free,
it took him two years.
Do
you know what? When the book came out, his own name was spelt
wrongly on the front cover! The lesson: concentrate on getting
what you want and ignore those not needed.
CONCLUSION:
This book: HOW TO MAKE IT IN NIGERIA Building Your Wealth
From Ground Floor Up by Sunny Obazu-Ojeogbase is a MUST-READ
and a STUDY TEXT for all entrepreneurs and would-be businessmen
and women.
